Any side effects
There are no side effects from the procedure, itself. The recovery from the original wound will take some time depending on the severity. Complications like wound infection, delayed healing, reduction of blood supply to flap due to clots forming in blood vessels can happen. Although these are complications which Dr Suhas will take great care to avoid pre-emptively, it can nevertheless happen in a very small minority of patients due to various factors like smoking, Diabetes, long standing wounds etc.
Preparation
Once you have chosen to go ahead with the procedure, Dr Suhas will advise you a few blood tests etc to ensure that you are indeed in good health otherwise.
If you do have medical conditions like Diabetes, Hypertension, Thyroid Problems, Asthma or anything else, Dr Suhas will ensure it is well treated and controlled before the procedure.
On the day of procedure

Technique of Wound Reconstruction in Dubai
Depending on the severity, it can be done under General or Local Anesthesia.
After cleaning and Debridement (removing damaged tissue and readying good tissue for subsequent repair), the defect or wound is analysed and a suitable plastic surgery technique is planned.
There are different options to cover the wound depending on the size, site, criticality and cause of the wound.
Some common methods to cover/close wounds are –
– Skin Grafts – only the upper layer of the skin can be taken from a hidden location like the thigh or back and used to cover the wounds. This graft sticks to the wound and gets integrated like normal skin.
– Flaps – Sometimes the wounds are deep and some critical structures which are exposed in the wound will need to be covered. In such cases, Flaps which is basically tissue containing skin, muscle or bone, depending on what needs to be reconstructed is used.
These flaps can be taken from adjoining areas (local flap), from neighbouring areas (regional flap) or distant areas (free flap/ microvascular flap).
Recovery
- You will need rest to recuperate from the injury.
- You will need to visit the doctor a few times for dressing to ensure your healing is going well.
- Once stitches are removed, you will be advised some scar treatments to ensure the marks heal well.
- An important aspect in recovery is the Physiotherapy. When to start, how to do it and how long will be intimated by Dr Suhas during your recovery process.
- Avoiding direct sunlight and using sun protection is important to avoid darkening of the scar areas.
- Good nutritious food, regular medicines, rest, adequate hydration will help you heal faster and get on your feet quicker.
