What is Otoplasty or Ear Correction ?
Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that can reduce the size of the ears, position them closer to the sides of the head in cases where the ears can be seen to sticking out, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing appearance and position.

It is imperative at this time for you to reveal your complete medical history including any medications you maybe taking or other treatments you might be undergoing so that your safety is ensured.

Preparation
Once you have chosen to go ahead with the procedure, Dr Suhas will advise you a few blood tests etc to ensure that you are indeed in good health otherwise.
If you do have medical conditions like Diabetes, Hypertension, Thyroid Problems, Asthma or anything else, Dr Suhas will ensure it is well treated and controlled before the procedure.
On the day of procedure
Dr Suhas will see you before the procedure for marking the area.

Procedure Details
Eligibility
- Adults and children above the age of 8 years.
- Those who have ear deformities.
- Those who have prominent or outwardly placed ears.
- Those in other wise good health to undergo the procedure.
Technique of Otoplasty or Ear Correction in Dubai
In children, the procedure is performed under general anesthesia. An incision is placed behind the ear, which is hidden, and the cartilage is reshaped or excess is removed to give the ear a more natural shape. Dissolvable stitches are used to close the incision, and the ears are covered by a dressing for about five days.
In adults, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia on the outpatient basis. Through the procedure is identical to the one performed on children, the surgical technique may differ depending on the correction the patient desires.
Recovery
- It is usually done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia and you can go home the same day evening.
- Immediately after the surgery, there will be bandage around your forehead area, and you will also see mild swelling and bruising over the next few days, which are absolutely normal and will disappear soon.
- 1-2 days post surgery, there maybe swelling of the forehead area , which will all disappear completely over the next few days.
- You will also be prescribed some antibiotics to prevent infection.
- Most patients can resume desk work after 3-4 days with minimum discomfort
- You will need to visit Dr Suhas a couple of times to ensure your recovery is on the right path.
- Usually patients require a week or so to get back to normal work. Walking indoors is recommended, but for harder exercise schedules like aerobics, a few more days are needed. Carrying heavy loads is not advisable during the first 10 – 14 days.
- It is advisable to take a 3-4 days off from work – just to ensure you are presentable before resuming work.
- Gradually as the swelling subsides in and around your brow and forehead, your final result will start showing up after a couple of months.
